Give blood to help the American Red Cross help others with 3News' Mike Polk Jr.

The Give From The Heart Blood Drive is on Tuesday from 7 a.m.-7 p.m. at Executive Caterers at Landerhaven in Mayfield Heights.

CLEVELAND — Help the American Red Cross help others by giving blood on Tuesday at Landerhaven in Mayfield Heights, and hang out with 3News' Mike Polk Jr. in the process.

The organization has a critical shortage of type O blood and urgently needs blood donors of all blood types, so everyone is welcome at the Give From The Heart Blood Drive through 7 PM.

Mike has warned producers that he's passed out from giving blood in the past, so watch live to see if that fate befalls him again.

The event is being held at Executive Caterers at Landerhaven, located at 6111 Landerhaven Drive in Mayfield Heights.

The entire process takes about one hour and 15 minutes, but the actual donation of a pint of whole blood unit takes about 8-10 minutes, according to the Red Cross.

However, the expected time will vary slightly with each person depending on several factors including the donor's health history and attendance at the blood drive.

Christy Peters and Jim McIntyre from the American Red Cross Northeast Ohio Region will be on site to answer questions.

If you'd like to know more, you can call 1-800-RED CROSS or visit the organization's websites at RedCrossBlood.org and redcross.org/volunteer.
