Local company aims to donate 10,000 nursing bras to moms in need

August is National Breastfeeding Month, and a local company is giving back to help moms on their breastfeeding journey.

CLEVELAND — The first week in August is World Breastfeeding Week, which kicks off National Breastfeeding Month.

Every year, local intimate apparel company 'Leading Lady' donates thousands of nursing bras, to help empower new moms to breastfeed.

Medical research has shown that breastfeeding gives babies the best start in life, but it can be really tough. Having access to support and things like nursing bras, can make a huge difference.

'Leading Lady' states on its website, "regardless of income, every mom should have the right and support to breastfeed, and sometimes that takes encouragement in the form of a comfortable, supportive, convenient nursing bra. We hope our donation program motivates and inspires moms along their breastfeeding journey."

3News’ Hollie Strano spoke to company CEO, Mark Corrado, about their mission to donate 10,000 nursing bras this year.

“We know the benefits of breastfeeding and how much the babies benefit from it, so we've done all we can to try to get nursing bras out to more moms,” says Mark.

“When we are able to donate these bras out to women it feels good initially, (but) I think the best feeling we get, is when we get these big pictures and thank yous.”

You can help, too!

For the entire month of August, for every bra that's purchased on the 'Leading Lady' website, they will donate a nursing bra to a new mom in need.

This year they are teaming up with local groups,'Moms First' and 'Birthing Beautiful.'

They are also partnering as a national sponsor with La Leche League USA.

In 2019, ‘Leading Lady’ was able to donate more than $600,000 in nursing bras to families in Ohio and across the country.
