CLEVELAND — A 21-day curfew goes into effect Thursday across the entire state of Ohio to slow the spread of COVID-19. On Wednesday's edition of the On the GO! aftershow, the 3News morning team discussed the curfew and some viewer reaction as well.

“People are asking what is this going to do?” asked morning reporter Austin Love. “Well, what are you going to do? These are times when everyone has to be responsible and not have these big parties. The government isn’t planning these parties, it’s people.”

Viewer Paulette White joined in by writing, “I think if everyone follows the rules and use(s) common sense, we should be able to get back to normal sooner than later! I’d rather be alive than think it’s a joke and end up dead."

Another viewer on Facebook, Jim Finley, is not pleased with the governor and added that “DeWine needs to just go away. People need to be able to live our lives.”

Facebook user John Majdiak said, “the curfew is better than a shutdown.”

Others gave the perspective that most people are not out between the restricted hours of 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. so they’re OK with the curfew.

During the three-week span in which the curfew is in place, businesses will be required to close and citizens expected to be at home. The curfew does not apply to emergency situations.

3News' Lynna Lai reports that violations to the curfew are considered a second-degree misdemeanor punishable by up to 90 days in jail with a $750 fine. However, Lai reports that Gov. DeWine does not anticipate police will be pulling people over during the curfew.
