It was Edwin Newman of NBC News who said, "We live in a big, marvelous world. Television ought to reflect that."
We've taken that to heart here at Channel 3, and we're changing things a little bit. That Newman quote is actually displayed in our new front lobby, all part of the new and improved WKYC studios.
Yes, we've been in this building since 1999, but things and times have changed. You walk through our front door, and you see another quote from legendary NBC News anchor Tom Brokaw: "Don't be afraid to do something unconventional, to take a chance, to risk something."
Check out our new Studio B. Do you see an anchor desk here? No, because this is a conversation area.
WKYC Studios is plural for a reason. This is the main space everybody will see on television for all of our shows:
- Go! (morning show)
- Lunch Hour (noon)
- What Matters Most (6 p.m.)
- Front Row (7 p.m.)
- What's Next (11 p.m.)
Yep, we still have the anchor desk. People like tradition, they like to see their anchors there. At the same time, this is not reflective of a typical news studio space. It's fresh, it's clean, it's got a modern vibe, and you can't help but notice the colors like "passion" orange and "sky" blue.
So just as you redecorate your house, you're working within a fixed space. You're not knocking down walls, you're not changing the footprint of the house; you're trying to work within your bounds. That's what we're doing here, and we're so excited about these changes.
It's fresh and new. It's reflective of the new viewing habits. Things have changed, and our newscasts have to change with them.
We hope you'll join us on our journey!
