Black Light: Cleveland woman provides hassle-free picnics to couples, groups

Inspired by her own love story, Sarde Steele puts her own twist on intimate quality time.

CLEVELAND — Are you looking for a unique way to spend quality time with your favorite person or group of people? Well, a local woman is taking the hassle out of pleasant picnics, and this is not just your average checkered blanket and basket situation.

Sarde Steele is the owner of Pleasant Picnic, a Northeast Ohio-based company that provides elaborate and hassle-free picnics to couples and groups for all occasions.

"So whether it's your birthday, your anniversary, date, proposal, bridal shower," explains Steele, she can make it happen.

We all know the feeling-- wanting to do something nice for a special occasion,. But when it comes to planning, you either don’t know where to start or simply don’t have the time.

But with Pleasant Picnic, there's nothing to worry about.

"This is kind of like all one-stop-shop where they could just, just, just show up and leave," says Steele.

Steele started her business just seven months ago, in the middle of the pandemic—a time she says has worked in her favor.

"It was still something that was like nice and close-knit with just, you know, people that's in your circle. And like I said, it's outdoors. You could still be able to social distance," she explained.

What started as a way for Steele to spoil her husband on date nights and anniversaries has now blossomed into a thriving business.

"I haven't had any hardship with it, with anything people want to do it more, says Steele.

Pleasant Picnic is available year-round which is especially helpful for those pesky Northeast Ohio winters.

"Everyone goes out to eat. Everyone has a birthday party, or, you know, they go out of town, but this is something more, um, intimate," says Steele.

Guests ready to picnic can suggest their own theme or choose a standard package and make it your own. You can add games, charcuterie boards, music and a host of other things to personalize your special day.

"Whether it's just a picnic of two or picnic of 20. I literally put my all into it. I want them to have like the best experience," says Steele.
