MENTOR, Ohio — The Lake County Humane Society recently rescued a very sick cat from a hoarding situation and is now asking the public for donations to take care of the sweet animal.

The pet, which they have named Paulie, came to Lake Humane several months ago; when Paulie first arrived he was lethargic, dehydrated, and not doing very well at all despite his gentle nature. He could barely move. His teeth were very infected making it difficult for him to eat.

Paulie was given antibiotics to fight the infection but the treatment didn't work. A veterinarian performed dental surgery on Paulie in hopes that would help but the poor furry guy remained quite ill.  After more tests, it was discovered that Paulie had an uncommon bacterium that is resistant to typical treatment, and without treatment, he wasn't going to make it.

Paulie is now beginning a long course of injectable antibiotics. It will take about eight weeks of treatment to see any improvement. Even though Paulie has been so sick for so long, Lake Humane staff describe him as sweet and loving.

Paulie's treatment is expected to cost more than $700.00, which is why Lake Humane Society is asking for donations to help cover the cost of Paulie's medical care. The organization is a nonprofit and relies solely on donations.

To make donations for Paulie's care, a fundraiser page has been set up for him.

Any money leftover from Paulie's treatment will go into Lake Humane Society's Angel Fund that will help other pets in their care with medical expenses.
