Cleveland launches summer meal program to feed students while school is out

The Food Bank's kitchen will be providing 8,500 meals a day to children and seniors throughout Northeast Ohio from June 4 through August 10.

Many call a Cleveland summer the best time of the year, but for young students out of the classroom, it can also be the hungriest.

The Greater Cleveland Food Bank estimates there are more than 83,000 food-insecure children in the region. This summer they are partnering with the Cleveland Metropolitan School District and the Cleveland Public Library to feed those hungry kids.

More than 100 sites will be operated by the Food Bank, including 28 Cleveland Public Library branches and 15 CMSD sites. The Food Bank kitchen will be providing 8,500 meals a day to children and seniors throughout Northeast Ohio.

Friday was the kickoff of the Summer Meals program at the Cleveland Public Library's Walz Branch. The official start date will be June 4 and the program will run through August 10.
