How to make healthy sweet treats this summer: Wellness Wednesday

Check out these five healthy recipes.

CLEVELAND — I scream, you scream, we all scream for ice cream--especially on August 19, National Soft Ice Cream Day!

But with too much of the sweet treat, our waistlines will scream too. Don't worry, ice cream isn't off limits. 3News enlisted the help of Anna from "Anna in the Raw" to teach us how to enjoy ice cream with a healthy twist. 

During "Wellness Wednesday" on What's New Anna shows Jay Crawford and Betsy Kling how to use extra fruit and save money on their favorite summer treats. 

Check the recipes below! 

Banana Cacao chip mint ice cream:

Step 1:

  • Make sure bananas are ripe
  • cut up two bananas and freeze

Step 2: 

  • Put frozen bananas in food processor or in blender
  • Blend until like soft serve 

*If hard to mix add 1/4 cup of milk of choice

Step 3:

Eat right away or freeze for at least 30 minutes to get frozen ice cream quality!

For mint chocolate chip:

  • Make original recipe
  • Throw in some spinach to make more healthy
  • Add 1/8 teaspoon of peppermint extract
  • Add chocolate chips or raw cacao nibs

Very berry:

  • Make original recipe
  • Mix additional 1 cup of frozen berries

Pistachio:

  • Make original recipe
  • Add 3 tablespoons of pistachio butter
  • Add 1/8 vanilla
  • Sprinkle with pistachio

Cookies and Cream:

Step 1:

  • Make original recipe
  • Add 2 tablespoons of coconut butter

* add in between Oreo's for healthier ice cream sandwiches or chocolate chip cookies
