How to make Italian sausage soup on Lunch Break with Jay Crawford

Jay Crawford is joined by Hollie Strano as the two make Jay's favorite soup!

CLEVELAND — The time has come here in Northeast Ohio for us to hunker down with our coats and hats. While temps may be frigid, there's no better time to enjoy a warm bowl of soup. 

During Tuesday's Lunch Break, Hollie Strano joined Jay Crawford, at his home, to learn how to make his favorite soup--Italian Sausage.

Here's what you'll need: 

  • 1 lb Italian Sausage
  • 2 large russet potatoes, sliced in ½, then in ¼ slices
  • 1 large onion
  • 1 cup bacon bits (optional)
  • 2 garlic cloves minced (optional for Jay!)
  • 2 cups kale
  • 2 8 oz cans chicken broth
  • 1 quart water
  • 1 cup heavy whipping cream

Here's what to do: 

  1. Brown sausage, drain and add to soup pot
  2. Add chicken broth and water – stir
  3. Add potatoes, onions, garlic
  4. Cook on medium heat until potatoes are done
  5. Add bacon
  6. Add salt & pepper to taste
  7. Turn heat to low and add kale
  8. Add cream – heat through and serve
