GRAFTON, Ohio — At Lu's Pizza, they are no strangers to adapting. When their original location burned to the ground in April of 2019, they quickly re-opened next door within five months. Now in the face of an ongoing pandemic, they are forced to adapt their business again.
"Everyone has been very supportive," said owner Elaine Brown. "Just try to do things differently."
Differently and also safely.
Lu's is currently open for takeout seven days a week.
But due to coronavirus limitations, only five customers are allowed inside of the restaurant at a time to ensure social distancing. Customers can place their order over the phone or in person. While people wait, they are asked to sit in their car where they will receive a number. Once the order is complete, a worker will bring it out.
For Lu's it's been a priority to keep health a priority for customers and staff.
While they have been keeping up with orders, they have also been giving back. One day a week they offer free slices to kids who would have otherwise received a meal from school.
"I just feel like people need this," Brown said. "It's stressful on everyone. If we can put our mask on and our gloves on and stay our six-foot distance from people I feel like people really appreciate it."
The next school pick up day is April 22 at noon. Students will receive a free slice of pizza, a bag of chips and a bottle of water. Extra slices and a slice for parents are just $1.
