The story of Swensons and its iconic Galley Boy burger: NorthEATS Ohio

Yum! There's nothing quite like gobbling up a Galley Boy from Swensons.

Known for its signature Galley Boy, which is a double cheeseburger smothered in two homemade sauces, Swensons is consistently ranked among America's best burger spots. Swensons is even a favorite of Akron native LeBron James.

"I get a double cheeseburger, and onion rings," James recently revealed during an interview at the I PROMISE School in Akron. "And then I get a banana milkshake with real ice cream. I have a nice little feast."

One of their secrets? Each burger is flipped four times as it sizzles on the grill for four-and-a-half minutes. It's a formula that keeps fans coming back as the chain celebrates its 85th anniversary this summer.

"It started with a guy named Wesley ‘Pop’ Swenson," one employee revealed during a recent WKYC visit. "He started selling Galley Boys out of his station wagon."

Swensons, which got its start in Akron all those years ago, has been expanding faster than ever with new locations now as far south as Columbus.

But what does it take to grill up their legendary burgers? We sent Austin Love behind the scenes at Swensons to find out -- and you can watch his food adventure in the player above.
