Paying it forward with free coffee for World Kindness Day

On a heavy news day, we sent Romney Smith to a local coffee shop to help spread some goodwill.

OHIO CITY, Ohio — It's been a heavy news day, packed with some serious issues, so 3News decided to look for something to make us all smile.

Wednesday is World Kindness Day, so we sent Romney Smith to see if she could spread some goodwill at a local coffee shop.

At Rising Star Coffee Roasters in Ohio City, Smith bought a $5 gift card to surprise someone with a cheaper cup of coffee and that kindness was appreciated by Bobbi Wilson.

“Obviously, you don’t know what people are going through, so it is nice and just little things can help,” says Wilson.

Rising Star Coffee customers also got in on the fun by continuing the trend to pay for the next customers coffee! As the word of World Kindness Day spread, customer David DeLuca says it only made sense to continue to the trend.

“If there’s a place that seems to be perpetuating and pushing the concept, like it seems these guys are doing here, our coffee was free, so it seems like the natural thing to give someone else a coffee,” says DeLuca.

His mother, Jan DeLuca chimed in as well saying “Paying it forward is always a great idea!"

3News called Rising Star Coffee in Ohio City right before they closed and we’re happy to report the chain of kindness continued after our news cameras left.
