This will make you smile and warm your patriotic heart at the same time.

On Thursday, Richmond Heights police officer Dave Jake stopped by a home on Douglas Blvd. in response to a complaint that the resident was flying a tattered American flag. Officer Jake found that the owner was an elderly female who requested that he simply remove the flag and dispose of it.

Officer Jake and his supervisor, Sgt. Denise DeBiase, did a lot more than that.

As Police Chief Tom Wetzel described on the department's Facebook page, Sgt. DeBiase gave Officer Jake money out of her own pocket to go out and buy a new flag for the resident. He then returned to the house and put the new flag up for her.

"These actions truly define the culture, mindset and professional class of the Richmond Heights Police Department which continually goes above and beyond for the residents of Richmond Heights. It’s one of the reasons I feel so privileged to be a part of this police department," Wetzel wrote in the post.
