Shaker Heights boy uses Bar Mitzvah to raise more than $4,000 for new playground

Noah Rusnak is helping to make sure kids in his community have a new place to play

SHAKER HEIGHTS, Ohio — A 13-year-old boy chose to use his Bar Mitzvah to give back to his community.

7th Grader Noah Rusnak has now raised more than $4,000 toward a new playground at historic Fernway Elementary School, which is temporarily closed after a fire in July of 2018.

“We were just thinking about the basketball hoop at first,” he says.  “Then we raised all that money, now we can do more for the school, get more equipment.”

Rusnak loves sports.  He plays soccer, basketball, baseball, tennis and golf.

“It wasn’t really fair that other people didn’t get to play basketball for themselves so when the school gets rebuilt I want the chance for people to play all the sports and play basketball,” he says.
