Spirit of Children brings Halloween to pediatric patients at UH Rainbow

Young patients get to enjoy a fun Halloween party, complete with free costumes, craft making, and games.

CLEVELAND -- For some of the pediatric patients at University Hospitals Rainbow Babies and Children's, missing holidays has become their normal.

That's the main reason why the hospital system teams up with Spirit Halloween every year to bring the celebration to these young patients, who often can't venture outside the hospital walls.

It's called Spirit of Children, benefiting the Child Life Department at UH. Young patients get to enjoy a fun Halloween party, complete with free costumes, craft making, and games.

The grants provided by Spirit of Children enable UH Rainbow staff to acquire the best tools, education and training. It also helps buy educational and entrainment items such as iPads and toys used for distraction during tough procedures.

"It's just amazing. Logan had to be here for his birthday, and he'll be here for holidays. You know, the kids miss out on so much, but through all the volunteers, and all the wonderful things they do here, they get to have a little bit of all that fun that other kids to have, that they miss out on," Darcie Warmuth said.

Warmuth's two-year-old son, Logan, is battling Leukemia. He's doing great, but not out of the woods. His mom says she so appreciates events like these to boost his spirits.
