How to entertain family, friends in Cleveland during the holidays

Keep your family busy touring Cleveland this Thanksgiving weekend!

CLEVELAND — Whether you’re looking to show off Cleveland or simply want to keep your family busy and out of your house for a few hours, we have a list of things you can do for the holidays.

The lights are hung, and the ice-skating rink is in place in Public Square.

Kristen Jantonio with Destination Cleveland says now is the time to show off the city to your family and friends visiting from out of town.

“Whether you want to go ice skating in Public Square, go to the 5th Street Arcades for a little bit of shopping with the Cleveland Bazaar, or maybe even go down to Playhouse Square and check out the ‘Festival of Trees’ and the beautiful theaters there," says Jantonio.

If you have a music lover in town, The Rock Hall has seven floors of exhibits with everything from the history of rock to modern-day music exhibits.

If you head to the Westside, you can visit the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo which is open and free on Thanksgiving Day!  Other sites to check out include the Westside market for foodies, multiple breweries and a local favorite from a movie.

“In Tremont you have a Christmas Story House which is the exterior of the building where the movie was filmed and now the inside has been completely transformed to look like what it did in the film," says Jantonio.

University Circle on the east side allows you to park in one spot and tour the area including the Cleveland Museum of Art.

“You have the Cleveland Museum of Art which is always free for its permanent exhibition. So save a little money that way. You can walk to the Cleveland Botanical Garden which has its GLOW event,” says Jantonio.

Last, but not least, what trip isn’t complete without a picture to document the adventure in Cleveland?

You have to stop by one of the six Cleveland script signs. Another social media worthy picture backdrop is the world’s largest rubber stamp ‘FREE’ at Willard Park.
