BEACHWOOD, Ohio — While 2020 has been a year of uncertainty, one thing that remains the same is last minute shopping on Christmas Eve.
Our 3News crews stopped by Beachwood Place Mall, Legacy Village in Beachwood, and Southpark Mall in Strongsville to talk with shoppers buying last minute gifts.
“Me and my friend just went last minute shopping. It’s packed in the stores. It’s crazy,” said one shopper at Beachwood Place.
“It’s hectic in there,” said another shopper.
We asked why he waited until Christmas Eve to do his shopping.
“Procrastination. Typical procrastination,” he said.
While some folks are hitting the malls because they put off their shopping – others look forward to this holiday rush.
“This is always fun. I always do Christmas Eve shopping,” said Tarsha Wooldridge, who was shopping at Beachwood Place.
And still, others just wanted to do something that felt routine.
“I just wanted to get out of the house and experience what was a normal Christmas,” said Cheryl Jackson, who was shopping at Legacy Village. “This is what I used to do.”
How did the pandemic play into things? Shoppers said it didn’t really. They just practiced social distancing and followed COVID-19 protocol.
“Masks, purell every time we leave, we’re staying safe,” said another shopper.
So, who are they shopping for?
“I am shopping for my kids,” said Wooldrige.
“I got my daughter a few things, and I got my nieces and nephews a few things,” said another shopper.
And what are they buying?
“Just a little razzle dazzle,” said another shopper, showing off a Gucci bag.
We’re told that part’s a surprise.
“I can’t tell because it’s a Christmas gift and this is national television,” she said.
If you still have shopping to do yourself, make sure you check store hours before heading out.
