Cleveland's first cat cafe opens in Tremont

Meow!

A new cafe is open in Cleveland, and it sounds "paw-some."

The affoGATO Cat Cafe opened its doors Jan. 2 in Cleveland's Tremont neighborhood.

The location aims to, according to its mission statement, "improve our city by creating a safe, comfortable haven for adoptable cats, cultivating a fun and inclusive space for cat-lovers to work and play, and teaming up with other local businesses and artists for the betterment of the community as a whole."

WKYC streamed live from the cafe below:

Here's how it works: Restaurant-goers can first enter a section with cat-themed treats but no actual cats, in order to keep the hair out of the food and drinks. Windows showing where the cats are will be featured for those who still wish to see them.

In the second section, however, patrons can actually sit and interact with "the coolest cats in town." The cats are there to cuddle and play with all, and the best part is many are adoptable through the Cleveland Animal Protective League.

The cafe is located at 761 Starkweather Ave. in Cleveland's Tremont neighborhood.

Visitors are asked to make reservations either online or by phone in order to spend time with the cats, and there are also rules that must be followed by all who enter. Those can be found here.
