Clear the Shelters: Inside the new City of Cleveland Kennel

Clear the Shelters on Aug. 18 is the national effort aimed to give all dogs and cats a home.

CLEVELAND -- Get ready to welcome the new City of Cleveland Kennel this December!

For years, the staff and volunteers have worked toward this goal of a new space for the many cats and dogs taken into the kennel each day.

The building on W. 91st and Detroit will house more than 140 small and large dogs, has an open play area connected to the spacious pods and has better air flow as your four-legged friend waits to meet you.

"A shelter is not a home," said Michelle Harvanek, operations manager. "It's an unnatural environment for a dog to be in. The goal is to get them out as quickly and as safely as possible."

Clear the Shelters on Aug. 18 is the national effort aimed to do that.
