Parma police officers rescue puppy from smoke-filled house

A 911 call from a mail carrier alerted authorities that the house was filling with smoke and a dog was barking inside.

PARMA, Ohio — Police in Parma were able to lend a helping hand to a puppy that was trapped in a smoke-filled home on October 9.

A mail carrier called 911 after noting that a house in the 6300 block of Bradley Avenue was filled with smoke around 11:00 A.M. The carrier noted that the smoke alarm was going off and that a dog was barking.

No one was home at the time when rescuers arrived. They found burned food on the stove, but thankfully flames had not broken out in the house.

Officer Breanna Smith pulled the dog named Apollo out of the house. She handed Apollo off to Officer Jason Piazza, who posed with the dog in the below photo.

The homeowner told police she believes that Apollo jumped onto the stove to get some food and hit a knob to turn on the appliance.

Officer Smith returned to the house a few days later to take this picture with Apollo and family!
