A group of furry friends can rest easy, thanks to the actions of Rittman firefighters.
According to a post on the department's Facebook page, crews were called to a basement fire back on July 7 and saw smoke coming from the garage. While all people inside the house had gotten out prior to their arrival, there were still several "furry and feather occupants" inside.
Thankfully, workers were able to safely evacuate all of the pets, and the department shared a photo of "pet masks" being used on some kittens. The masks were apparently donated by the All Creatures Veterinary Clinic and Lodge.
Officials say the extent of the damage was limited to a small area in the basement, along with some minor smoke damage on the first floor.
