The 3 things Roxy is learning right now in her training to become Wags 4 Warriors service dog

Our adorable puppy is making some great progress already!

CLEVELAND — Roxy, our Wags 4 Warriors puppy, has many months of training ahead before she is paired with a veteran.

She may only be a few months old, but she’s already on her way with some basic, important steps that will lay the foundation she needs to become a great service dog.

Roxy’s handler, Kayla DeLorenzo shows us what Roxy is working on this week.

“We are going to continue working on potty training, crate training and when she is eating, we’ve been having her sit and wait before eating," says Roxy's handler, Kayla DeLorenzo. "So we are going to work on those three things this week."

Why sit and wait? Well, there are a couple of reasons.

“We have other dogs in the house. You want all of the dogs to sit and wait for their food, so they are not attacking each other’s food or getting in each other’s way. It’s also important because that’s going to be the foundation for the rest of her training. She is going to sit and wait and she is going to wait for the command to do the next thing."

Since Roxy is still learning, sometimes DeLorenzo will have her sit while holding her collar telling her to "wait." Roxy may not understand right now, but the repetition will help.

Good girl, Roxy!
