Doylestown, Ohio – His family was about to celebrate his first birthday. That’s when Mox the dog bolted.
Missing for four days – the Horsfall family finally saw some movement near the frozen over swamp near the back of their property.
A small army mobilized, including Cliff Franks who runs Buckeye Drone out of Canal Fulton.
“Because the dog had a black coat, it made him easy to spot from four-hundred feet up against the white snow,” he told Channel 3. “We got high enough to find him, then we got low enough to check his health – having been out in the elements for four days, that was important.”
With Mox appearing healthy and a general sense of where he was at on the frozen swamp – two firefighters from Chippewa Township Fire Department went wading into the waters.
With a boat and a rope in hand, they made one failed attempt before the dog darted off a few miles away.
After a few miles, they zeroed in on his location again – this time they got him. And the English Setter / Longhair Fox-Terrier mix was reunited with his family.
They had a belated birthday party for him, while at the same time celebrating the first responders, drone operators and good Samaritans that made his homecoming happen.
“I’ve never done a job like that in my life,” drone operator Franks told Channel 3. “I love my job.”
