Giant Eagle becomes latest retailer to urge against open carry

Another retail chain is making changes.

Giant Eagle has joined a recent handful of grocery and store chains to urge its customers against open carry in its store.

The Ohio grocery chain issued a statement Friday, noting updates to its open carry policy.

"Giant Eagle has a longstanding policy that guides our Team Members on instances when someone shares a concern about a customer who openly carries a firearm in our store. Giant Eagle has made the decision to update this policy, stating the company’s preference that customers not openly carry firearms in any of our Giant Eagle, Market District or GetGo locations," the statement read in part.

Giant Eagle joins a growing list of retailers who have asked customers to stop openly carrying firearms. CVS, Walgreens and Kroger made the request earlier this month, while Walmart also made the request following shootings in stores in Texas and Mississippi.
