LYNDHURST, Ohio — A local shopping center is closed Sunday as a precaution in light of threats made against shopping centers both locally and nationwide.

Legacy Village in Lyndhurst issued a statement announcing the closure on its social media platforms. The organization cited the safety of its customers, tenants and employees as the motivation behind the closure.

"While we respect and value the right for peaceful protests, we’ve made the decision to close Legacy Village today out of an abundance of caution," the statement read.

The decision comes after several businesses in downtown Cleveland were vandalized and looted after protests lead to violence and destruction Saturday evening.

"Northeast Ohio as a whole represent the epitome of kindness, strength, resilience and perseverance," the statement. "As a proud member of the Greater Cleveland community, we believe that will help us come together during these uncertain times."

Legacy Village did not disclose if they would return to normal business operations and hours Monday.
