Love Your Look: Winter Knits

3News' Sara Shookman and Wardrobe Stylist Jasmine Woolfork show us how to look chic and cozy as the temperatures drop

CLEVELAND — It is officially sweater weather in Cleveland, but just because it's time to break out your coziest knits, that doesn't mean you have to sacrifice style for comfort.

How do you pull that comfortable - yet - cool look off, without looking sloppy? We turned to local Wardrobe Stylist Jasmine Woolfork for a little help in our latest episode of "Love Your Look."

"It's definitely not [about] your traditional 'grandmother knits'," she told us. "All of that is out, so we're going to show new ways to style this classic piece."

Jasmine suggested we meet her at Banyan Tree in Tremont, where they have a great selection of knitwear. "It's one of my favorite local places to shop," she told us.

For our first look, Jasmine styled a casual ensemble on model Lexi, pairing several lighter "openwork, lighter-weight" knits together for this look. When it comes to this look, more is more! Make sure the knits are similar or work together.

"We actually layered a white knit tank top with a [knit] cardigan over top, and then we paired it with a knit jogger," Jasmine explained.

The jogger-style pants were a key part of this casual look - but Jasmine says to make sure to show a little ankle when rocking these trendy pants. "That helps to tailor the look," she told Sara.

Our second look was all about work wear. "You can pile on those knits for work too," Jasmine said. "Stay cozy, still be business casual."

Jasmine's mom Deena modeled this look, "she's where I get my great style from!" said Jasmine.

Deena's "work" look centered around a statement piece - a long knit vest from Banyan Tree. Jasmine paired the vest with a staple many women already have in their closet - a simple knit turtleneck, with a universally flattering A-line skirt.

But because this is another head-to-toe knit look, fit is key. "You just want to make sure you have a good fit on your turtleneck," Jasmine explained. "You don't want it to be too baggy."

And though a striped vest might seem like a bolder buy, there are lots of ways to wear it. "You can style it with jeans for weekend-wear, with your sweater underneath. There are lots of options for vests," Jasmine told us.

Our third and final look focused on a "night out" - and whether it's date night, or a night out with your girlfriends, knits aren't necessarily the first thing that comes to mind.

Jasmine put those thoughts to rest with a bold fuschia sweater on model Isabella. "As you can see, this is a statement look in itself. A bright neon, openwork knit with a balloon sleeve, which is everywhere right now, even on sweaters."

The key to this look is to keep the bottom layer simple, so Jasmine paired a sleek ribbed midi-length dress from Zara to keep things streamlined under the sweater. She also chose simple jewelry. "[the jewelry is] subtle. A really great dangle tortoise earring and we paired it with a gold bangle to add a little sparkle." Jasmine explained.
