Pharmacist speaks to high school students about dangers of opiods

The message centered around the choices people make in their lives and that they should to stay away from highly addictive medications.

ROCKPORT, Texas — A pharmacist with CVS was in Rockport trying to convince high school students why they need to steer clear of abusing prescription drugs. The message centered around the choices people make in their lives and that they should to stay away from highly addictive medications. The presentation at the Rockport High School took place on Friday, March 22.

Dr. Kingley Nwogu says the problem is that opioids are everywhere and often readily available, especially if a family member has a prescription.

"It's quite easy unfortunately, that's why you have to be very vigilant when taking what is prescribed. Just whenever you step out of the bounds of taking that medication prescribed to you. You could really start running into issues," said Dr. Nwogu.

Ashton King is a Junior at Rockport High School and took home a valuable lesson from the presentation.

"It's extremely important, because one wrong choice can send you down the wrong path forever. And just staying away from it can keep you on the right track," said King.

Dr. Nwogu says the most important thing parents can do is be open and honest when talking to their kids about the prescription drugs they take.
