SANDUSKY, Ohio — Expectations are high for Cedar Point as the park plans to celebrate its 150th anniversary next summer.
Fans have speculated the park's plans for 2020, as bloggers and diehards have pondered possibilities of new rides, new food and new attractions. On Thursday, one day ahead of National Roller Coaster Day, the park appeased those fans with new details on next summer.
According to a news release issued by the park, the 2020 season will feature a new Gold Pass, a limited-edition $99 pass to help parkgoers start the celebration early.
The Gold Pass grants unlimited access to 2020's 150th season, as well as unlimited visits to Cedar Point and the Cedar Point Shores Waterpark for the remainder of the 2019 season. That includes visits during HalloWeekends, free parking and "Golden Entry," which gets passholders access to some of the park's rides 30 minutes before opening.
The Gold Pass is available now on Cedar Point's website.
Cedar Point also detailed a few plans in the works for 2020's celebration. The park's Main Midway will feature a "fully-immersive" nighttime celebration with new food options, as well as some throwback snacks. The park also says the Town Hall in Frontier Town will be re-imagined, and a river expedition will be created for a "new generation."
The park is also encouraging guests to become a part of its historic celebration. Cedar Point is asking for photos, videos and stories from those who have visited over the years. The park will share those moments across its social media platforms, ads, website and more. Click here to share yours.
"That’s just the beginning," the news release said. "The park will reveal the details on these additions and even more surprises in the months leading to Cedar Point’s opening day next spring."
Earlier this year, Cedar Point GM Jason McClure revealed to WKYC's Will Ujek that plans are in the works for a new ride in 2020, but he extinguished rumors that any mega coasters will be constructed by then.
