Mother, 3 children killed in house fire in Akron's Kenmore neighborhood

One person believed to be the woman's fiancee was able to get out.

Officials say four people are dead following a house fire in Akron's Kenmore neighborhood Wednesday morning.

The blaze broke out on the corner of 18th Street Southwest and Iona Avenue around 9 a.m. Authorities say the four who perished are a mother and her three children, while a man believed to be the woman's fiancee was able to make it out alive. The exact identities of the victims have not been released at this time.

According to an Akron Fire spokesperson, crews made several attempts to enter the home, but the heavy volume of the fire kept them out.

Due to the sub-zero conditions, an Akron Metro RTA bus was at the scene to help keep firefighters warm.

Passerby are asked to avoid the area due to water and ice around the scene.
