14-year-old boy fatally shot in Maple Heights; two teens in custody

The teen has been identified as Sha'shawn Anderson of Cleveland.

The Maple Heights Police Department is investigating a shooting that claimed the life of a 14-year-old boy on Monday afternoon.

Police responded to Adams Street around 3:45 p.m. for reports of a man being shot and lying in the ground near a Family Dollar store in the 17000 block of Broadway Avenue. 

Once at the scene, officers located the victim, a 14-year-old boy, who sustained a gunshot wound to his lower back. He was transported to MetroHealth Medical Center where he later died from his injuries.

The teen has been identified as Sha'shawn Anderson of Cleveland.

“Witnesses in the area reported seeing multiple juvenile males fleeing the scene of the shooting,” Maple Heights police said in a press release. “With the help of witnesses, the Maple Heights Police Department was able to locate several suspects inside a nearby residence. These juvenile males were detained while further investigation was completed.”

On Tuesday, police said two male juveniles -- ages 12 and 13 -- were taken to the Cuyahoga County Juvenile Detention Center in connection with the incident. Charges are forthcoming, police said.
