5-year-old child in Cleveland dies from suspected abuse

A 5-year-old child died in Cleveland following suspected neglect.

CLEVELAND — A 5-year-old child in Cleveland died on Wednesday following an incident that authorities are investigating as a case of child neglect/abuse.

According to Cleveland police, officers responded to Rainbow Babies and Children’s Hospital at approximately 4:30 p.m. for a report of a child who had been declared deceased. The child had been transported to the hospital by a private vehicle from 11914 Forest Avenue.

Members of the Homicide Unit responded to the hospital, as well as the residence for investigation. Authorities say that they are investigating the case as child abuse/neglect.

A Cuyahoga County spokesperson gave the following statement to 3News: "We are cooperating with CPD on the investigation of the death of {the} five-year-old girl who was not in our custody. {Her} siblings are safe and with a family member. We’re waiting to hear from the medical examiner."

3News is not naming the victim at this time.
