2 people found dead in South Euclid home after SWAT standoff connected to murder in Beachwood ends

The standoff started on Friday evening. Police said it was connected to a man's homicide in Beachwood.

South Euclid — A standoff involving SWAT units in South Euclid that was connected to a man's murder in Beachwood ended early Saturday morning with two men being found dead, according to police.

An investigation led to a search warrant which was to be executed at the house on Elmwood Road near Green Road in South Euclid. As police were about to knock on the door around 7:30 p.m., shots were fired.

The standoff itself took roughly 12 hours, and a large portion of the front of the home was destroyed. No officers were hit in the exchange of fire, and while the men were both shot it is not known at this time exactly how they died. Officials also would not say what evidence they were searching for regarding the murder of 59-year-old Dr. Richard Warn, although Warn was listed as the owner of the home.

Residents nearby on Elmwood were evacuated to the South Euclid Community Center on Victory Dr. for shelter, but have since been given the okay to return. Police also cut power off to parts of the street, and are now working to restore it.

Beachwood Police found Dr. Warn dead at his home on Brentwood Road on Thursday. He had been shot several times.

Investigators say there was no sign of forced entry and suspect foul play. It's the first murder in Beachwood in more than 20 years.
