Cars block traffic doing stunts Saturday night in Toledo

Unknown people were doing "donuts" at the intersection of Hill and Reynolds around 9 p.m. Saturday, stopping traffic and causing a circle of fire in the road.

TOLEDO, Ohio — Vehicles were seen and heard doing "donuts" and driving recklessly around 9 p.m. Saturday.

The incident occurred at the intersection of Hill and Reynolds in south Toledo. Spectators crowded the area while recording videos that were then posted to social media.

A viewer who does security nearby captured video of a car on the street revving its engine and racing, causing clouds of smoke to fill the air.

By now, the viewer's video has more than a thousand Facebook shares.

At one point, a ring of fire broke out in the middle of the intersection while two people in masks and carrying gas cans spurred on the vehicles.

At one point, a ring of fire broke out in the middle of the intersection while two people in masks and carrying gas cans spurred on the vehicles.

Other videos that were streamed live on Facebook that night show a similar scene of cars doing 'donuts' at three other Toledo intersections - Alexis and Telegraph, Sylvania and Jackman, Secor and Central.

WTOL 11 reached out to the city to see if they're aware of this situation and, if so, how they're handling it.

Businesses at the intersections are upset with the fact this happened. One store manager told WTOL 11 he believes this kind of thing would happen less if police were quicker to respond.

"One method that would definitely prevent it is responding to it and breaking it up. If they immediately respond to it and break it up, people would stop doing it, especially if it has repercussions, such as going to jail," said Yahya Travis, manager at Crab Island.

At least one person who was allegedly in attendance at the incidents was arrested early Sunday morning for a charge unrelated to the events.

On Sunday, State Rep. Haraz Ghanbari posted pictures from an arrest made on I-75 near Bluffton and of a person who allegedly had been in attendance at the "street racing" incidents.

Ghanbari says he was taking part in a ride-along with an Ohio State Highway Patrol trooper when the driver of a Dodge Charger driving recklessly on I-75 fled from a traffic stop, leading the trooper on a high speed chase for about 20 miles.

Ghanbari says it was later revealed the people in the car had been in Toledo to attend the street racing events.

Ghanbari represents Ohio District 3 which includes most of Wood County, including Toledo suburbs of Perrysburg.

This is a developing story.
