Callers claiming to be police: Cleveland Heights warning residents of new scam to steal their information

CLEVELAND HEIGHTS, Ohio — The City of Cleveland Heights is asking citizens to be on alert after multiple reports of a new phone and email scam.

According to a post on the City's Facebook page, a number of residents have received phone calls and emails from individuals claiming to be from the Cleveland Heights Police Department, contacting them regarding an "urgent legal or important matter" and instructing them to call an unknown number.

The City is warning residents to be aware that the Cleveland Heights Police Department would never call or email any resident with instructions to call an unknown number.

A number of scams have arisen over the past six months as the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic has ravaged the world. 

The City of Cleveland Heights is asking that residents share their warning on the community NextDoor website and other social media platforms.
