Cleveland Heights police investigate weekend fatal shooting

The victim was shot while walking home on Saturday night.

CLEVELAND HEIGHTS, Ohio — Cleveland Heights police are investigating a fatal shooting that took place over the weekend. 

Officers were called to the area of Oakdale Road and Meadowbrook Boulevard around 10:00 pm Saturday to check on a call of gunshots.

When police arrived, they found 23-year-old Malik Moore laying on the ground in front of Oakdale Road.

Police began administering aid while EMS was en route.

Moore was transported to University Hospitals, where he later passed away.

Police have learned that Moore was walking home when an unknown person or persons came up to him and shot him several times.

Police have not identified suspect(s) yet as detectives are still investigating.

Cleveland Heights police is asking the public that if anyone saw anything or knows anything regarding this fatal shooting to call them at 216-321-1234 or the tip line at 216-291-5010.

Tip calls can remain anonymous.

On Monday evening, Cleveland Heights community members plan to light up the streets in memory of Malik Moore. Lumineers (bags and candles) will be distributed to the homes on Rexwood, Oakdale, Edgewood, Meadowbrook (between Rexwood and Lee) and Kensington (between Rexwood and Lee).

Family, friends and neighbors will meet on Oakdale at 7 p.m.  At 8 p.m., the goal is for all the neighbors to light the luminaries at the end of their driveways. At that point, those gathered will take a walk through the neighborhood.
