CLEVELAND — The Cleveland Division of Police is investigating a pair of fatal shootings that took place on Friday evening. So far, three people have been confirmed shot with two people dead.
One of the shootings happened near the area of Lake Shore Boulevard and Villa Beach Drive. Police say a 30-year-old man died after receiving multiple gunshot wounds to the head. In the same incident, a 16-year-old boy sustained a gunshot wound to the hip. There is no word yet on his condition.
Also on Friday, police say a 24-year-old man is dead after being shot in the head and chest in the 12400 block of Union Avenue.
Friday evening's incidents come amid a rash of shootings that have taken place in the last 24 hours in the city. Two people were hospitalized earlier on Friday after being shot on East 147th Street. On Thursday, a Detroit man died following a shooting in Cleveland's Corlett neighborhood, while a 40-year-old Brook Park man was struck nine times by gunfire and died while vacuuming his car at an east side car wash.
Prior to the start of Memorial Day weekend, Cleveland Mayor Justin Bibb and other city leaders held a briefing discussing plans for curbing crime this summer.
“We will be using every tool in our arsenal to keep our community safe. We are going to continue to work with the ATF, FBI and U.S. Marshals on targeted traffic sweeps, target drug enforcement and targeted gang reduction activities across all five of our police districts," said Bibb on Thursday.
