Two Cleveland Police officers arrested after failing to properly report assault, accident

Both officers have been placed on on restricted duty with no contact with the public.

CLEVELAND — Two Cleveland Police officers were arrested Friday on several misdemeanor charges. 

Patrol Officer Harvey Andrekovic, 47, was charged with Dereliction of Duty, Obstruction of Official Business and Civil Rights Violation and Patrol Officer Jason Rees, 33, was charged with Dereliction of Duty, Obstruction of Official Business and Civil Rights Violation.  

The charges are a result of the two officers failing to properly report and document an assault and car crash on August 22, 2020.

Both officers have been placed on on restricted duty with no contact with the public pending the outcome of the criminal case.

The investigation was conducted by the Cleveland Division of Police Internal Affairs Unit and the findings were submitted to the City of Cleveland Prosecutor’s Office. 

At the time of the incident, both officers were assigned to Basic Patrol in the Fifth District. Andrekovic joined the force in 2011 and Rees was hired in 2018.
