Cleveland Police: 12-year-old girl wounded in overnight shooting on city's west side

The girl was hit in the arm and taken to MetroHealth Medical Center for treatment.

CLEVELAND — The Cleveland Division of Police is investigating an overnight shooting that wounded a 12-year-old girl. 

The shooting happened at around 3:20 a.m. near the area of W. 87th Street and Lake Avenue. 

Police say a 31-year-old woman and her 12-year-old niece were dropping off a friend at W. 87th and Detroit. When the friend exited the car, shots were heard and the two drove off. The woman discovered that her niece had been shot in the arm. 

The pair were taken to MetroHealth Medical Center for treatment. 

The victim's car was found with a flat tire, possibly from the shooting. 

There is no word yet on any suspects in this incident.
