Northeast Ohio man shoots and kills his ex's boyfriend in Bedford Heights City Hall parking lot

The shooting occurred during an exchange of a child between separated parents.

BEDFORD HEIGHTS, Ohio — One man is dead today after a shooting in Bedford Heights on Sunday afternoon. 

According to police, the shooting occurred in the Bedford Heights City Hall parking lot, during an exchange of a five-year-old boy from his father to his mother. The father, Dion Johnson, 28, has primary custody of his son.

Per BHPD, the mother and her boyfriend- now identified as Rasheem Smith,49- arrived to pick up the child from his father and his girlfriend when an argument broke out between the father and the mother's boyfriend. 

While the five-year-old boy was sitting in the backseat of his Johnson's car, the 28-year-old man fired one shot at Smith, killing him. 

Johnson has been arrested.
