RAVENNA, Ohio — A former Ohio school superintendent has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for having sexual contact with two male students while a principal.

The Record-Courier in Ravenna reports 35-year-old Laura Amero apologized before sentencing Monday in Portage County and told a judge she thought her actions resulted from mental health problems. Judge Laurie Pittman gave the former Windham superintendent and principal the maximum sentence allowed for two counts of sexual battery.

Amero had sex with a then-16-year-old student multiple times between February and May of 2017, and apparently tried to have sex with another between September of 2015 and May of 2016. Following her indictment, she resigned from Windham in June of last year after just four months on the job.

Amero pleaded guilty in November. Amero will not report to prison until April 1 because she is eight months pregnant.
