The United States Marshals Service, the Ohio State Highway Patrol and the Cuyahoga County Sheriff's Department announced Monday morning the arrest of a suspect who has escaped from police custody.
According to officials, 17-year-old Lavelle Spencer was taken into custody by officers today after escaping from the Warrensville Developmental Center last week. Spencer was undergoing treatment at the facility as he waits to stand trial.
The 17-year-old currently has pending charges to crimes such as robbery, aggravated robbery, grand theft, having weapons while under disability, failure to comply with an order of a police officer, assault, gross sexual imposition, kidnapping and rape.
The U.S. Marshals Service offered a $5,000 reward to anyone who provided information leading to Spencer's capture, and officials say that numerous tips were vetted throughout the process of searching for the escaped juvenile.
Spencer was found in the 3900 block of East 74th Street in Cleveland, hiding inside of an attic. A Cuyahoga County Sheriff's K-9 officer helped locate Spencer.
The 17-year-old is currently in custody at the Cuyahoga County Juvenile Detention Center.
U.S. Marshal Pete Elliott added, “Our team along with the Cuyahoga County Sheriff’s Department and the Ohio Highway Patrol worked around the clock to ensure a safe capture. We hope this outcome brings comfort to the victims of these horrible crimes.”
