Man accused of killing girlfriend's teen children in Garfield Heights gets $500,000 bond

Matthew Nicholson is accused of shooting a 17-year-old boy and 19-year-old woman to death.

GARFIELD HEIGHTS, Ohio -- Bond was set at $500,000 for 29-year-old Matthew Nicholson in court on Friday.

He's charged with two counts of murder in addition to domestic violence connected to the shooting deaths of his girlfriend's children in Garfield Heights: 17-year-old Manuel Lopez and 19-year-old Giselle Lopez.

Police say Nicholson shot the teens during an argument earlier this week at a home in the 4800 block of E. 86th Street.

The situation evolved into an hours-long standoff when police arrived at the scene. Nicholson later surrendered wearing a bullet proof vest.

His next hearing is scheduled for Monday, Sept. 10 at 9:45 a.m. at Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Court.
