Man arrested after throwing hot coffee at woman, children on RTA train

His charges include felonious assault, criminal trespass, and disorderly conduct.

RTA police say they were forced to arrest a 58-year-old man two weeks ago after he threw a hot cup of coffee at a woman and her two children while on a Red Line train.

According to a police report, the woman and her four children boarded the train at East 55th St. and noticed Steavie N. Wilson seated in the back. After the five sat down at the center of the car, the woman says she observed Wilson swearing and talking to himself before taking what she thought was a crack pipe out of his pocket.

The train proceeded to Tower City, and after it stopped there, Wilson walked toward the center of the coach and suddenly threw the scalding coffee onto one daughter's arm and another's face, causing pain and "significant discoloring" of the skin. Wilson then walked into the station where he was met by the train's engineer, who called for police.

Officers then say they observed Wilson arguing with the engineer on the platform before throwing an unknown object at her, causing them to tackle him to the ground and handcuff him as he continued to yell various profanities. The children were treated at the scene and advised to seek further medical attention.

Wilson was taken to the Cuyahoga County Jail. His charges include felonious assault, criminal trespass, and disorderly conduct.
