Beachwood Place Mall was placed on lockdown on Saturday, March 17th following a shooting outside the mall near Saks Fifth Avenue around 3 p.m. One man was shot and hospitalized.

Haba said at the time that the victim and the suspect likely knew each other. Another man was taken into custody. Police said no more than 2-3 shots were fired. A handgun and a large amount of cash were recovered from the scene, according to a news release.

A second report of shots fired was called in near the main entrance of the mall, according to police. A 17-year-old girl was taken to the hospital and later released. The two shootings were not related.

Shoppers inside the mall said they were told to shelter in place for a period of time, but the building was later evacuated as police searched the mall to clear the area. Employees were instructed to close the security gates to the stores inside the mall during the lockdown. Some shoppers and customers reportedly took shelter in office space and storage rooms.
