Cleveland Police search for man who posed as police officer, stole a car on Public Square

CLEVELAND — The Cleveland Police Department is seeking the public's help identifying a man wanted for impersonating a police officer and theft of a motor vehicle. 

On Tuesday, January 19, a woman was parked on Public Square around 5: 15 p.m. when a man approached her car. The suspect showed her a badge and told her she was illegally parked, police report. The man asked for her identification and acted as if he was verifying her identity using the  Cleveland Cleveland radio dispatch system. 

The suspect then instructed the woman to exit her car, leave her keys with him and go inside Tower City to get the person she was waiting for. The woman did as the suspect told her and when she returned, he had driven away in her car.
