Man who murdered Salvation Army worker sentenced to life behind bars

He admitted to killing 21-year-old Jared Plesec.

CLEVELAND -- William Jones will spend the rest of his life behind bars for killing a Salvation Army employee.

Life without parole was the maximum sentence Jones faced after pleading guilty to multiple charges connected to the incident in which 21-year-old Jared Plesec was murdered last December at the Euclid Beach Villa apartment complex on E. 156th Street in Cleveland.

During the sentencing hearing, graphic surveillance video of the deadly shooting was shown in the courtroom along with a Facebook live video that was streamed by somebody nearby in the minutes immediately after the crime. WKYC chose not to show that content.

Jones learned his punishment after reading a brief statement to the court in which he condemned the deaths of people like Tamir Rice, Timothy Russell, Malissa Williams and Trayvon Martin.

We streamed the entire sentencing hearing on Facebook:

After shooting Plesec, Jones fled the scene and went on a carjacking crime spree that ended in Lakewood.
