COLUMBUS, Ohio — The Ohio State Highway Patrol says a North Carolina man with out-of-state warrants was taken into custody by troopers at a rest area on U.S. Route 23 in Marion County Saturday afternoon, shutting down directions of the road temporarily.
Troopers and deputies from the Marion County Sheriff’s Office arrived at the scene in Richland Township at 1:23 p.m. after receiving a report of a man armed with a firearm and suffering from a mental crisis.
After locating the vehicle, a Nissan Altima, they established a perimeter and closed down northbound lanes of U.S. 23. According to OSHP, troopers received information that the suspect, 31-year-old Justin Hosey, had out-of-state warrants for his arrest.
OSHP proceeded to close southbound lanes of U.S. 23 when troopers from the Special Response Team and deputies with the Marion County Sheriff's Office Special Response Team approached the vehicle. Authorities took Hosey into custody without incident, OSHP says.
According to OSHP, authorities determined Hosey was in possession of a firearm and a stolen vehicle.
Hosey was taken to Multi-County Correctional Center in Marion on charges of receiving stolen property and weapons under disability. OSHP says he could face additional charges.
The incident is still under investigation.
