Mentor Police investigating armed robbery, attempted car theft at gas stations

MENTOR, Ohio — Police in Mentor are investigating a series of robberies that they believe are related from Wednesday night. 

At 8:30 p.m., a woman was pumping gas at the Shell Station on Mentor Avenue when a suspect, described as a black male, tried to get into her car. He left when he discovered the car was locked, fleeing in a dark Cadillac STS or CTS with a burnt-out passenger side tail light. 

Approximately 10 minutes later, a man pumping gas at the Speedway station on Reynolds Road was similarly approached by a suspect, wearing a mask and armed with a handgun. The suspect took the victim's keys to his 2013 Ford Edge (Ohio license plate HQK9941) and drove off. 

The investigation is in its early stages and police are asking for the public's assistance. .Anyone with information regarding these crimes is encouraged to contact the Mentor Police Department at (440) 255-1234.
