Police investigating attempted abduction near University of Akron campus

AKRON, Ohio — Police are investigating after a woman claimed she was nearly abducted near the University of Akron's campus Monday night.

The woman, who is not a student, told officers she was walking near Spicer and Gage Streets around 9:30 p.m. when a man in a minivan drove up beside her and attempted to pull her in. The woman screamed, and the suspect fled.

Not much is known about the suspect at this time, other than that he appeared to be in his 30s. The van he was driving is described as a light blue possible Dodge Caravan that appeared to be missing its second and third rows of seats.

Anyone with information regarding the suspect's identity or whereabouts is asked to immediately call the University of Akron Police Department at (330) 972-2911. Confidential tips can also be texted to 274637 as long as the message begins with "ZIPTIP."

In addition, UA's campus patrol is available to escort students at any hour. The service can be reached by calling (330) 972-7123.
