According to a police report, the incident happened sometime during the evening of June 1 or the overnight hours of June 2 at the Willoughby Village Cemetery on Madison Avenue.

Police tell 3News that the cemetery's sexton reported roughly 16 U.S. flags that had been placed on graves for Memorial Day were tampered with. The flags were ripped off of their poles. Some were torn and thrown to the ground.

The sexton's report came to police after everything at the cemetery had been cleaned up or replaced, however, someone has apparently come back several times to tamper with the flags. The sexton requested that police conduct extra patrols to protect the gravesites.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Willoughby Police Department Detective Bureau at 440-953-4210.
